The main rule you should follow when choosing your outfit is a lot of colour! A Mexican party is a veritable riot of colours! It has to be colourful, vibrant, temperamental and hot just by looking at it. Red, orange, yellow, green, blue, cobalt - don't be afraid of any colour combination. In addition, opt for long, flared skirts, ruffles, layers, striped ponchos, huge sombrero hats, a garland in your braided hair - all of these will turn you into a citizen of this hot and colourful country for one evening.
The key word is cacti. Lots of cacti! A Mexican party cannot take place without this iconic symbol of Mexico. Of course you don't have to raid the greenhouses of your nearest botanical garden, but it's worth thinking about at least cutting out characteristic cactus shapes from green cardboard and sticking them to the walls with double-sided tape. You can also buy colourful garlands with motifs referring to Mexican culture, such as colourful skulls.
Ceramic decorations in a Mexican style, such as frog figurines, toucans or skeletons in traditional Mexican costumes, which are most often associated with Dia de los Muertos, are sure to have an amazing effect and delight your guests. Here are five simple recipes for Mexican dishes which will make your party a real Mexican fiesta!
This classic is a firm favourite, which is not only an option at Mexican parties. Simple, quick to make and really delicious for your hot party.
Mash the peeled avocado with a fork into a relatively smooth paste. Drizzle with lime juice immediately afterwards to avoid darkening the avocado. Finely dice the onion and squeeze the garlic, add to the avocado and mix. Chop the scalded and peeled tomato into small cubes, but make sure you get rid of the watery part with the seeds first. Finally add salt, Tabasco and chopped coriander to taste. Serve in Mexican ceramic bowls. The guacamole goes perfectly with nachos, so place them next to it on a matching plate.
Marinated in lime juice, this fish dish most likely originated in Peru, but is now popular in many Latin American countries and the Caribbean. In our opinion, a Mexican party cannot do without this excellent, exotic and colourful starter.
Dice the fish into 1 cm cubes, add the sliced onion and chilli pepper, then pour over the squeezed lime juice and refrigerate for at least half an hour. Add salt to taste. Before serving, add the chopped coriander and diced avocado.
Serve in a colourful ceramic bowl.
Jokingly referred to by some as Mexican bigos, the dish chilli con carne has won the hearts of everyone who is not afraid of heavier dishes and does not shy away from spicy flavours. Your Mexican party needs to be enriched with this item!
Fry the diced onion and finely chopped garlic in a spoonful of olive oil. Add beef and spices and fry until the meat is browned. Add tomatoes from a can to the browned beef and stew covered for about 20 minutes. After this time add the diced peppers and cook for another 10 minutes. About 3 minutes before the end of cooking add the beans and season the dish with salt and pepper.
Serve the dish in a large bowl with fabulous colours.
This snack is the easiest and quickest item on the menu for a Mexican party. Minimum work, maximum effect!
Spread the nachos on a baking tray lined with baking paper and sprinkle with grated cheese. They should be placed in a preheated oven at 150 degrees for about 3 to 5 minutes - enough time for the cheese to melt but not to burn. Such a snack will go perfectly with all the dishes suggested above.
Once removed, transfer the nachos to a serving platter, such as the one at Cerames, and sprinkle with thinly sliced spring onions.
Finally, something fiery to drink! What would a Mexican party be without tequila? Of course, you can serve shots in fantastically colourful ceramic glasses straight from Mexico, with just salt and lime wedges. But who doesn't like a classic margarita?
Wet the rim of your glass with a lemon wedge and then dip it into the salt on the saucer, creating a salt sprinkle on the rim of the glass. Put 5 ice cubes in a shaker, then pour in the tequila, liqueur and lime juice. Shake vigorously for about a minute and pour the drink into the glasses sprinkled with salt, straining the ice cubes.
So, let's get started! Get your costume ready, cut out the cacti, decorate your house with Mexican ceramics and start making Mexican specialities! Your Mexican party is sure to be a social hit! Have fun!
